“I want to live in a world where the sun shines most of the time and it’s never too cold! And days are spent on road trips and adventures filled with beautiful scenery, dive bars and roadside cafes, and a never-ending soundtrack of good music. I am naturally drawn to the outrageous and the unconventional. Everything is a story waiting to happen.”
Zuleika Fray paints the layered, shifting landscapes of the self. Her work is raw and immersed in nostalgia, emotion and a desire to connect. With earthy palettes, contradictions, symbolism and abstract forms. A multi-disciplinary artist, she works in both photography and painting. Based in Plymouth, Devon, she draws on her upbringing in London and Falmouth, Cornwall.
After almost twenty years as a professional photographer, Zuleika Fray returned to painting in 2020, revisiting the discipline she began in childhood years before her photographic career. That pause gave her painting a fresh curiosity and a deeper sense of purpose.
Her work asks viewers to sit with the raw edges of the human experience and discover the quiet, sometimes feral or violent beauty in life’s fragmented stories.
